What is A Tax Clearance?
A Tax Clearance Certificate is a document issued by the South African Revenue Service which validates your status as a taxpayer and confirms that your tax affairs are in order at the date of issue. This agreement may, in special cases, be issued to applicants who are in tax arrears if an installment arrangement has been made with SARS.
SARS introduced the new Tax Clearance PIN in 2016 with the new tax compliance status system. This change made it possible to generate a real-time tax clearance status. The system generates a tax clearance online and provides the user with a PIN that can be given to any 3rd party that may require it. The 3rd party will be given authorization, by means of the PIN, to verify the status themselves with SARS on E-filing. As your tax clearance status changes throughout the year (If a return is not filed on time), it will change the status of the information which the 3rd party will retrieve from the online verification.
